Some Kind of Hate

A particularly gruesome teen-themed ghost story, this delivers the expected horror film shocks but also effectively explores the theme of bullying in surprising depth. It takes its time to set up characters before the supernatural business starts and even as the body count climbs takes care to focus on the relationships between its mixed-up characters … which, in an unusual turn, extend to vengeful spirit Moira (Sierra McCormick), who is given more depth of characterisation than the familiar silent grudge-holding spooks of Japanese-influenced horror and even goes Freddie Krueger one better in her well-motivated campaign against unpleasant kids.
