Kim Newman’s “10 Must-See Movies Streaming at TheHorrorShow.TV”{0}
This excellent little science fiction drama prefigures the better-known Ex Machina in may ways, but has its own interesting angles. Scientist Toby Stephens works with a humanoid robot imprinted with the face of a murdered colleague. Its reaction to the program prompts him to question the motivis of the dystopian government which has commissioned the creature. Writer-director Caradog James’s film is ambitious, smart, well-acted strains against its limited budget. Its strongest suit is Caity Lotz in a complicated, Bride of Frankenstein-like dual role – she is inhuman and sympathetic simultaneously, formidable in athletic fight scenes and unexpectedly affecting.
