THE RING Cycle Continues{0}
As reported in Deadline, The Big Bang Theory‘s Johnny Galecki (previously seen in I Know What You Did Last Summer) is currently shooting Rings, the third instalment of the $400m franchise inspired by 1998 J-horror Ringu (itself based on the novel by Koji Suzuki).
Naomi Watts previously starred in both The Ring (2002) and its 2005 sequel The Ring Two, but will not return for the third film, which co-stars Alex Roe and Matilda Lutz. Galecki will reportedly play “a handsome, pleasure-seeking professor … a complete departure from his sensitive nerd guy Leonard on CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory” in the new film, directed by Spain’s F. Javier Gutiérrez (Before the Fall), and due for US release on November 13.
The Ring and The Ring Two were both scripted by Ehren Kruger, who also co-wrote the 16 minute short Rings (2005), which provided a bridge between The Ring and The Ring Two. (Still with us? Good.). However, the script for Rings has been written by Jacob Aaron Estes (Mean Creek), Akiva Goldsman (I Am Legend) and David Loucka, whose screenplays for Dream House and The House at the End of the Street attracted big stars but fell resoundingly flat as actual films.
