TRAILER DROP: 28 Days Later/Dredd Screenwriter’s EX MACHINA{0}
Just 2.8 days after 28 Days Later was named “best British horror film of the 21st century” in a wide-ranging survey of horror filmmakers, critics and fans, the new trailer for 28 Days Later, Sunshine and Dredd screenwriter Alex Garland’s Ex Machina has arrived.
The film, which marks Garland’s directorial debut, is described as an intense psychological thriller in which Caleb (About Time‘s Domhnall Gleeson, soon to be seen in Star Wars Episode VII), a 24 year old coder at the world’s largest internet company, wins a competition to spend a week at a retreat belonging to the company’s reclusive CEO, Nathan (Inside Llewyn Davis star Oscar Isaac). But when Caleb arrives, he finds that he will have to participate in a fascinating experiment with the world’s first true artificial intelligence, housed in the body of a beautiful robot woman, Ava (A Royal Affair‘s Alicia Vikander). This makes Ex Machina sound a bit like the similarly-titled The Machine (http://thehorrorshow.tv/movie-display/machine), but let’s hope it has more in common with that film than, say, Transcendence or – even worse – the Steven Spielberg-produced TV show Extant. Check out the trailer here and watch for the film early next year.
