Breaking: STONEHEARST ASYLUM Opens in the UK{0}
Stonehearst Asylum, the gothic psychological thriller starring Kate Beckinsale, Jim Sturgess, David Thewlis, Jason Flemying, Brendan Gleeson, Sir Ben Kingsley and Sir Michael Caine, will be released in the UK this April, courtesy of Lionsgate. The film, based on a short story by Edgar Allen Poe, is directed by Brad Anderson (The Machinist, Transsiberian).
When Edward (Sturgess), a young doctor fresh out of college, arrives at Stonehearst Asylum in search of an apprentice position, he is warmly welcomed by the superintendent, Dr. Lamb (Kingsley) and his staff, and a mesmerising woman by the name of Eliza Graves (also the film’s US title). Edward is intrigued by the progressive Dr. Lamb’s modern methods, until a series of unusual events lead him to make a horrifying discovery.
“Following its UK premiere at this year’s Film4 FrightFest at Glasgow Film Festival,” commented Lionsgate’s Nicola Pearcey, Managing Director Home Entertainment & New Media, “we are pleased to be able to offer horror fans the opportunity to enjoy Stonehearst Asylum in cinemas or at home, on download to own and on demand rental platforms, with a simultaneous theatrical and digital release on 24th April. With its sterling British cast and crowd-pleasing concept, this thrilling gothic horror is a perfect candidate for this innovative release strategy, giving our audience more choice in their viewing experience.”
